Ergonomic Assessment

OSHA – General Duty 5 A 1

Currently, there is no specific standard regarding ergonomics in the workplace. However, the legal basis for conducting an ergonomic assessment is found within the Occupational Safety and Health Act, Duties (General Duty Clause Section 5). This section requires an employer to provide a work environment free of recognized hazards. WSS can conduct an Ergonomic Assessment of a single workstation or a complete facility. Ergonomic assessments are designed to determine those risk factors which may cause musculoskeletal system injury. The assessments also examine the means to reduce or eliminate those risks by making the job accommodate the worker, rather than have the worker adapt to the work.
